1.Overstock’s Subsidiary gets Stake in Bankorus, a Blockchain Banking Platform

 

Blockchain subsidiary of Overstock.com, Medici Ventures Announced via a press release on March 11, that they have purchased a small stake in Bankorus, a blockchain banking platform

 

 

Medici Ventures, the blockchain investment arm of Overstock, has acquired a 5.1 percent equity stake in blockchain banking startup Bankorus. This is in series of similar exercise being done by the firm which is investing in Blockchain projects lately.

The addition of Bankorus to Medici Ventures’ portfolio of companies will further our work in building the foundation of a blockchain-based technology stack for society,” said Jonathan Johnson, president of Medici Ventures.

 

Johnson said:

“Bankorus has built a revolutionary blockchain banking platform that dovetails nicely with Medici Ventures’ goals of eliminating middlemen, democratizing capital, and rehumanizing commerce by helping individuals access and control their own digital assets.”

 

Medini ventures founded in 2014 had In december also purchased a 29.6 percent stake in digital securities firm Chainstone Labs for about $3.6 million.

 

Last month, Overstock’s Ceo, Patrick Byrne said that blockchain can make government“super efficient and incapable of being bribed,” pointing out that government services have reached a turning point for a fundamental change of their structure, and blockchain technology, in his opinion, will be the optimal solution.

 

2.MEW (MyEtherWallet) Launches Open Source Blockchain Explorer for ETH

 

Popular Ethereum wallet interface MEW (MyEtherWallet) is launching an open-source blockchain explorer, EthVM Alpha, to rival Etherscan.io.

On Mar. 11th, MEW announced the launch of EthVM Alpha on the Ethereum test network. EthVM Alpha is a blockchain explorer tool designed to enable users to examine blockchain histories, balances, and smart contracts, all while adhering to an open-source philosophy.

 

MEW (MyEtherWallet) is a free and open-source Ethereum wallet interface, enables additional features and welcomes community collaboration.” A preview of MEW’s EthVM Alpha is available here.

 

Olga Kupchevskaya, vice president of MEW explained her reasoning for why the tool was needed:

 

“The explosion of interest in cryptocurrencies in 2017 brought many new players to the blockchain space but also bewildered many newcomers. What we need are open-source blockchain tools that can provide knowledge and resources to this growing community, in order to facilitate healthy technology development.”
