1.UNICEF Launches Cryptocurrency Fund Supported by Ethereum Foundation
UNICEF, the United Nations Children’s Fund, has launched a cryptocurrency fund to support open source innovation for children around the world, The announcement is published via official press release on Oct 09, 2019.
UNICEF will currently be able “to receive, hold and dispense donations of cryptocurrencies” and will support two digital assets – Bitcoin and Ethereum.
Henrietta Fore, UNICEF Executive Director said, “This is a new and exciting venture for UNICEF, If digital economies and currencies have the potential to shape the lives of coming generations, it is important that we explore the opportunities they offer. That’s why the creation of our Cryptocurrency Fund is a significant and welcome step forward in humanitarian and development work.”
As per declaration The proceeds of the fund will benefit three grantees of the UNICEF Innovation Fund – and a project coordinated by the GIGA activity to connect schools over the world to the internet.
Ethereum Foundation became the first supporter to the fund and already transferred 100 Ether, worth around $18,000, to the UNICEF crypto fund.
Aya Miyaguchi, Executive Director of the Ethereum Foundation said,“The Ethereum Foundation is excited to demonstrate the power of what Ethereum and blockchain technology can do for communities around the world. Together with UNICEF, we’re taking action with the Cryptofund to improve access to basic needs, rights, and resources,”
The Ethereum Foundation will make its initial donation through the French National Committee for UNICEF. UNICEF national committees of USA, Australia and New Zealand also accept cryptocurrency.

2.Binance Users able to use Fiat Currencies Through Alipay and WeChat
One of the biggest exchanges in the world Binance’s users are able to use fiat currencies through Alipay and WeChat. The information was published by a user on Twitter as confirmed by CEO Changpeng Zhao.

Zhao was very quick to clarify that, while Binance is accepting payments through the two Chinese services, company is not working directly with WeChat or Alipay. users are able to use them for peer-to-peer transactions.

One of the biggest social media app globally, WeChat at present has over 1.1 billion active users according to Statisa. Payment application Alipay has over 900 million users as well, per the China Daily.
The move comes after the implementation of the companies peer-to-peer trading for Bitcoin, Ethereum and Tether against the Chinese yuan earlier on October 09, 2019. The service will ve available to Android users who as of now have Binance accounts registered for at least 30 days, with support for iOS to be added later.
Prior to this news Binance has added TRX Staking platform, empowering users to deposit their token holdings and earn staking rewards .
